MSHP President Message:

Dear MSHP Members:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president for 2015-2016.   I consider it a great honor and privilege to serve in the positon and continue the work of so many dedicated members before me. I would like to specifically thank MSHP’s now immediate past-president, Tripp Dixon, and the entire 2014-2015 board for an incredible year for our organization.   I would also like to thank Mary Joe Wicke for an incredible seven years of service as our Association Manager.   Mary Joe has displayed all the qualities of a servant leader during her time in this role.   We will miss you in this role but look forward to your continued involvement in MSHP!

It is an exciting and challenging time to be in health-system pharmacy.   The changing landscape of healthcare continues to provide ample opportunities for pharmacy to assert the unique value that we bring to the healthcare system.   Without doubt, patients benefit from our care and increased involvement. Tripp Dixon stated at our last annual meeting that as an organization our goal has be centered on serving our customer—the patient.   With that in mind, the MSHP Board created a strategic plan for the upcoming year that will focus on two key areas: patients and their care and our members and partners.   Both of these ultimately result in our patients receiving the best care possible.

The Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative (PPMI) has been rebranded and is now called the Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI).   MSHP will encourage the utilization and completion of these tools to advance the care delivered to our patients. The PAI taskforce will focus on increasing the completion of the hospital self assessment as well as the new ambulatory care self assessment.   Completion of these tools will provide data to help support pharmacy practice initiatives throughout the state.

MSHP will actively advocate for laws, regulations, and standards that improve patient care. I am excited to share that MSHP will continue its involvement in Capitol Day at the Mississippi State Capitol.   This event will be held on February 11th this year.   MSHP will join MPhA, MIPA, the University of MS School of Pharmacy, and the board of pharmacy to meet legislators and advocate for regulations that help our profession meet patient needs.   The Legislative Affairs Council will be sending updates to our members and asking you to get involved as decisions are made that affect our patients and practice.

As always, an organization is only as strong as its membership.   MSHP is blessed with members with strong leadership and a desire to unite as a profession and advance patient care.   Continued growth in this area is vital to our success.   I would like to encourage all members to renew your membership and reach out to fellow employees that are not actively involved with our organization.   Jameika Stuckey is our membership committee chair this year and brings an infectious enthusiasm to this role.   Please reach out to her, a member of the membership committee, or myself if you would like help in planning a membership drive at your workplace.   Visit our webpage www.msshp.org for additional membership details and resources.

I appreciate your support as we work together to make “MSHP: A Great Team for Mississippi Healthcare…”
